Catarina holds a PhD in Immunology. During her thesis she studied the homeostasis of T cells. She later worked as a Post-doc at Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the identification and cloning of T cell receptors for cancer immunotherapy. She is currently running the Translational Cytometry Unit at the Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology and I3s.
