Editor’s Note: Hi everyone, I am the Managing Editor of Fibromyalgia News Today. We very much appreciate all the comments made so far on this article, and the fact that it’s creating a lot of buzz in the community.
However, let me remind you that we are strictly a news and information website about fibromyalgia, we do not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatments.
Please talk to your physician regarding any doubts you might have about your condition.
As our writer, Carolina Henriques, rightfully pointed out yesterday, these new transdermal adhesive patches are still under development and are not available to the general public yet.
For more information about the patches, please visit the Cannabis Science company. Thank you.

The team here at Fibromyalgia News Today has been overwhelmed by the response to an article we ran concerning the development of cannabis pain patches for people with chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia.

Researchers identify fibromyalgia brain signature that might improve diagnosis and treatment. Find out more.

The patches, which are not yet available for purchase or prescription, release medicinal cannabis directly to the skin which will deliver round-the-clock pain relief and could mean freedom from the traditional pharmaceutical options that fibromyalgia patients currently have to take.

With more than 1,500 shares on our Facebook page and 20,000 hits on the article in just four days, this is obviously something the Fibro community is eagerly looking forward to. Access to the product may take some time depending on where you live, and if the area you live in has legalized cannabis-based medicines.

Cannabinoids have been proven to help with pain relief and have been used in traditional medicine for thousands of years. With current legislation concerning cannabis-based medicines changing on a day-to-day basis in the U.S. and around the world, we can only hope that it won’t be too long before this type of natural treatment is available for everyone who suffers from the chronic everyday pain that fibromyalgia brings. Read the full article about the cannabis pain relief patches here.

As of right now, we don’t know when the patches will be released for general sale or where they will be available but as soon as we find out, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Specific test may help diagnose fibromyalgia by assessing the frequency of muscle spasms. Read more here.

Can you tell me if this medication will become available in Australia? We are currently undergoing medical cannabis trials here in Australia with various states at varying stages of those trials.

I was diagnosed with Lupus and Fibo 20 years ago. After taking medications all those years, I found out I never had Lupus. My body is now full of toxins from un-needed medications. I now have to fight the pain of my Fibro without any medication, due to the rejection my body has due to the long time of abuse from medications. Still, my Immune System rejects any form of medication I try to use. HTC in very minimal amounts and Turmeric are the only things that seem to help with the pain. Looking forward to trying this….

Oh wow. We are all very sorry to hear that. One of the problems with modern medicine practices is that it has to fix the problems made from previous generations. 🙁 We hope that when this patch becomes available that it will be a great benefit to you.

The cannabis pain patches are on sale for a few months at dispensaries in a Illinois. And the best thing is they work!!!!???????? but you have to wear them 2-4 days to start before you notice relief to get them in your system. Because of the cost of 20 dol per patch, they can be cut in half also. Last about 6-7 hours.

Hi: I am a 65 year old male who has been dealing with fibromyalgia for 4 years. I use to be very active and athletic. I don’t hear much about males dealing with the disease. Most of my issues deal with body stiffness, tender points, and flu like symptoms. I take the usual drugs, but get very little help.
Thank you for your great insightful site.

I am a male who was diagnosed with Fibro in 1992, but in constant pain since 1981. It’s a real grind, to be sure. Luckily, I have a flexible schedule. That helps enormously. Also, we moved to Arizona, where the warmth, dryness and stability of climate help somewhat. I am 60 and can’t wait to retire in a few years. There are relatively few of us men who suffer from Fibro. The worst thing is the fact that people can’t see what ails us and think we are just whiners. I will pray for you.

Mary’s Medicinals have several cannabis pain patches already available at marysmedicinals.com. They have a map showing where their products are available. You lucky Americans can access this in the states on their map. I am Canadian so we have no options like this available here, even though medical marijuana is legal with prescription here! Hope this information helps some of you. Jane in Victoria BC.
